Catalyst Climbing Clinics - for individuals with physical disabilities
 
WHAT: Catalyst Sports is a non-profit organization based out of Atlanta whose mission is as follows: to empower people by providing the highest quality of adaptive sports to the disabled community.

Chillin' Like Villains 

Chillin' Like Villains is an adult social group for individuals who have various disabilities, ages 18 and up. We meet once a month at different locations around town and do a variety of activities such as attend sporting events, potluck dinners, themed evenings, and much more.

C.H.I.P.S Golf - for individuals with cognitive/intellectual disabilities

 

WHAT: A weekly round and instruction of golf for individuals with disabilities. 
WHO:  Participants must be able to play nine holes independently with previous golf experience and able to play with minimal assistance.
WHEN: Tuesdays, 9/26 - 10/24
TIME: 5:30-7:30pm

WHAT: A 6 week indoor adaptive climbing program.
WHO: Individuals with a variety of intellectual and/or physical disabilities, ages 6 and up

Dreamnights at the Chattanooga Zoo

Dreamnights are events hosted by the Chattanooga Zoo that welcome all with chronic illnesses, disabilities or special needs along with their families/caregivers. Dreamnight is a no-cost VIP event featuring your favorite furry friends.

Asian Lanterns - Dreamnight

WHEN: Tuesday, December 12th 
TIME: 5 - 8pm 
COST: FREE but only for individuals with chronic illnesses, disabilities or special needs along with their families and caregivers.

Hiking 
 
WHAT/WHO: A group of individuals with disabilities, their family members, and friends who want to explore the beautiful trails in Chattanooga together! All trails are easy to moderate, and the group naturally splits up (with a trail leader) based on desired hiking speed. 
IMPORTANT: Be sure to sign up with Josh (info below) so you can be in the loop regarding location changes, weather alerts, exact meeting locations, etc!

Keen Adventures - NEW EVENT! 

 
WHAT: Dedicated one-on-one time for parent/child pairs to learn and practice outdoor skills from local expert and Keen Adventures founder, Bethany Keenan (see about info below)! Spend an evening learning in a group setting about how to prepare for a day hike, using a map & compass, simple first aid and more. Then craft your own first aid kit to take with you on your next adventure. We will all meet again the following morning to venture out on a guided hike with a wilderness scavenger hunt!
 
Meet Bethany: Bethany has a lifetime of outdoor experience and decades of working with children and adults, leading outdoor activities from hiking/camping, climbing and backpacking. Bethany thru-hiked the entire AT and was a backpacking guide in the Smoky Mountains National Park for 2 years. 
Keen Adventures Mission: We actively strive to introduce, educate, and empower children (and adults) to explore the outdoors by partnering with their families to boost engagement and cultivate new desires for adventures outside.
 
WHO: individual with disabilities, ages 6 and up, along with one parent. 
WHEN: Friday, 10/6 from 6-8:30pm then again on Saturday, 10/7 from 9-12pm. 
LOCATION: Friday night location TBD; Hike will take place on Lookout Mtn starting at Craven's House. 
COST: $60/pair, paid to Keen Adventures! This includes Friday night pizza, first aid supplies, guided hike and expert instruction!

Scenic City Adaptive Cycling

This program is Co-Sponsored by SPARC (Sports, Arts and Recreation of Chattanooga - a local chapter of Move United) and Outdoor Chattanooga. For more info on SPARC, check out their website: http://www.sparctn.org/

 

WHAT/WHO:  An adaptive cycling program for individuals with disabilities. Hand cycles and tandem bikes are available for individuals who have physical and visual disabilities. Three wheeled bikes and additional bikes available too! In addition to this, Outdoor Chattanooga brings their bike fleet for additional support and traditional bike are available to check out. Depending on the cycle needed, participants will have to be approved by the group that owns the cycle and fill out liability forms from the specific group you us a cycle form.
WHEN: Mondays, 8/21, 9/11 and 9/18
TIME:  6PM-dusk
WHERE: The Tennessee Riverpark at the Hubert Fry Center 
COST: FREE!

Please note that equipment is limited and pre-registration is REQUIRED!
Minimum Requirements for the Safety of Participants: 
1. Must have the cognitive ability to follow directions and instructions. 
2. Must be able to apply the brakes and come to a complete stop by the end of the first day of participation. 
3. Must be able to ride independently on the path with a volunteer by the third day of participation. 
4. Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) must be one year post injury.
5. Must not have medical issues which could endanger the participant, including seizures.
6. Approved helmets much be worn by all riders.
7. Participants, or guardians for participants under the age of 18, must sign liability release forms from SPARC, a chapter or DSUSA. 
8. Participants must meet weight requirements of equipment requested in order to use said equipment. 

Scenic City Adaptive Kayaking 

 

WHAT/WHO: An adaptive kayaking program for individuals with intellectual and/or physical disabilities. This program typically runs biweekly for the warmer months of May-October. Equipment is limited so sign up is mandatory!
WHEN: Get signed up and stayed tuned for fall dates and locations! 
COST: FREE!

Super Hoops

 

WHAT: An 8 week intramural basketball program focusing on the sport as well as social, physical, cognitive, and emotional skills.
WHO: Individuals ages 12 and up who have cognitive disabilities. 
WHEN: Mondays, 9/25 - 10/20 (skip 10/9 due to Fall Break)
TIME:
Skill Level 1 (Beginner/Intermediate): 5-6pm
Skill Level 2 (Beginner/Intermediate): 6-7pm
Skill Level 3 (Advanced): 7-8pm
LOCATION: South Chattanooga Community Center (1151 W 40th St, 37409)
COST: FREE!

T-Recs

 

WHAT: T-Recs is our teen social and recreation group that meets monthly to play games, socialize, explore the outdoors, go on outings into the community and more! The goal of this program is to increase social skills while participating in leisure and recreation opportunities with peers. 
WHO: Individuals with disabilities, ages 13-17 years old. Participants need to exhibit adequate emotional regulation to be redirected verbally or with visual supports and are not a harm to self or others. 
WHEN: The third Thursday of each month with outings taking place sporadically. 
TIME: 4-6pm 
LOCATION: Greenway Farms Conference Center (4960 Gann Store Rd, 37343)
COST: FREE with the exception of certain outings that may have a cost.

Wheelchair Basketball
This program is Co-Sponsored by SPARC (Sports, Arts and Recreation of Chattanooga - a local chapter of Move United)
 
WHAT/WHO: Monthly "pick-up games" with SPARC , which are designed to encourage skill development, recreational wheelchair basketball play opportunities and community awareness on a monthly basis. The program is designed for individuals with physical disabilities/mobility impairments along with individuals without disabilities that want to encourage inclusive opportunities. All participants must meet the following requirements: 
Minimum Requirements for the Safety of Participants:
1. Must have the cognitive ability to follow directions and instructions.
2. Must be able to stop the wheelchair quickly and appropriately maneuver chair safely during participation.
3. Must not have medical issues which could endanger the participant, including seizures.
4. Minimum age for all participants is 15.
5. Participants, or guardians for participants under the age of 18, must sign liability release forms from SPARC, A Chapter of DSUSA.
6. Participants must follow all NWBA rules and regulations in order to facilitate safe and fair play.
7. Must have basic ball control skills (or the ability to develop skills) including: throwing, catching, and passing. 
8.  Maximum weight of 250 lbs based on chair specifications. *If you do not meet this requirement but have your own wheel chair please bring it to participate with.
