CHATT TOWN COOL DOWN
CHATTANOOGA'S FREE END OF SUMMER EVENT 
AUGUST 25th-26th

School is back, fall sports are coming, and no doubt pumpkin spice will be seen soon, but SUMMER is still here. We are inviting ALL to our inaugural Chatt Town Cool Down at Ross's Landing and Coolidge Park on August 25th and 26th. 

 

Chattanooga’s end-of-summer riverside celebration. Join in or spectate as we showcase various outdoor adventure and action sports:  Paddle, bike, climb, skate, water games, disc golf, music, and more! Daily activities include entry-level to expert opportunities – there’s something for everyone.

This two-day event starts Friday, August 25th with a Splash Down into the Tennessee River, where you can spectate friends skating and biking on a ramp and being launched into the river Friday night also includes a Roller Disco Party, short paddle across the Tennessee River, and plenty of activities (music, food, beer garden, glowing activities, graffiti wall, and more).

 

We kick off Saturday with the 2nd annual Paddle Down, a relaxed 5.4 mile paddle down the TN river from Rivermont Park to Coolidge Park starting at 9:30am.
This event will be followed by a number of cool activities for all ages! 

 

All events below are family-friendly and free.

Chatt Town Cool Down

NEWS NOTES: 

Warner Park Pool has CLOSED for the season. This is mainly due to our lifeguards returning to school and the nationwide lifeguard shortage. The Warner Park Splash Pad is open Wednesday - Friday, August 16th-18th and 23-25th from 11am-2pm

 Water Fitness classes will not be offered during now till August 29th.

**Effective August 29 the 11am fitness class will now meet at 10am at BOTH pools.

Short History Walk on Sherman's Ridge with Outdoor Chattanooga on August 22nd at 9:30am!

SILVER ADVENTURES- Sherman's Ridge History Walk
This trip meets at Outdoor Chattanooga where our guide staff start the adventure with provided transportation to the trailhead at the base of Missionary Ridge.  This is the largest reservation in the park at 50 acres, more than enough to explore.  We will be joined by a local historian to provide us with a narrative on some history of this reservation.

Learn to Play Disc Golf Thursdays

Disc golf is one of the easiest sports to get into and in the Intro to Disc Golf class Outdoor Chattanooga’s instructors show you the rules, equipment, and essential techniques to get you started!  
With over a dozen courses in the Chattanooga area there are plenty of places to engage your game.  We aim to provide the beginner the confidence and resources to connect further with the area’s disc golf community.  This introductory class provides the instruction and equipment and meets at various locations and is offered the 3rd Thursday of the month through-September 2023.

Maclellan Island by Kayak with Chattanooga Audubon

Join Outdoor Chattanooga for a beginner-friendly kayak tour around Maclellan Island owned by Chattanooga Audubon Society, located in the heart of downtown. OC guide staff will provide basic kayak instruction with river safety, and lead a leisurely paced beginner-friendly paddle from the north shore to the island.

Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park and Outdoor Chattanooga offer a series of free bike tours through Chickamauga Battlefield.
The public is invited to join this leisurely-paced historical bicycle ride, which takes approximately two hours. National Park Service rangers will talk about the history of the battles that occurred in the areas in view, while Outdoor Chattanooga staff and volunteers provide ride leadership and support.

Bike the South Chickamauga Boardwalk-- BIKES PROVIDED

Join Outdoor Chattanooga on a guided and equipped bicycle tour of a popular section on the South Chickamauga Creek Greenway.  The tour is a 4 mile out and back (total of 8 miles), leisurely paced ride, showcasing the renowned boardwalk section of trail that is elevated above the creek and meanders along with it. 

August 20

Adventure Canoeing on the North Chickamauga Creek
August 20th, 4pm -7pm
Join Outdoor Chattanooga for a guided canoe tour of a recently cleared section of the creek, thanks to the amazing support volunteers at Tennessee Valley Canoe Club.   This evening paddle may lend the opportunity to watch several species of waterfowl, turtles, and more!  No experience is necessary as our staff will provide the instruction and the shuttle transportation. Expect about 2.5 hours on the water.


Barnard Astronomical Society Telescope Buyers Guide
